Bio: Steve Tracy
Unique jewelry and small objects of art have always caught my eye. Ever since I could manipulate a
tool I've been making things with my hands.
"The Fabrege influence - Michael Perchine in particular"
In the late 1990's I started decorating plaster eggs, with paint and crystals. After spending many
meticulous hours decorating these objects I figured I should make a hollow silver egg. With no knowledge on how to make
such an object, I went to see my local jeweler Doug Eggleston. Doug ordered me some plate silver and gave me a few pointers
on how to start. In a few weeks I had brutishly forged my first egg. (It isn't the nicest egg ever made, but I
do have a particular fondness for it!)
After long thought I decided in order to make a Fabrege style egg I needed some fundamental jewelry background.
Luckily I found a very good metalsmithing program nearby. Siena Heights Collage and Prof. John Wittersheim. I
have taken 4 courses since 2002 (Fabrication, Casting, Chasing and Spinning).
I currently make practically anything I want out of Silver, and I'm carefully moving into Gold ($$).
Fortunately I can go see Doug Eggleston or John Wittersheim for help when I really need it. I continue to learn more
about my craft thru books and the internet and with each piece I create. I make commissioned pieces, but itis always
the EGG that keeps my mind occupied.
